Freeze is our suspension track, built on the Uniform Rapid Suspension system (URS). It is for one situation: the abuse is blatant, the evidence is strong, and getting the domain offline this month matters more than ever owning it. The domain is suspended for the rest of its registration term, at a fraction of the cost and time of a transfer case. This is triage, not acquisition.
When Freeze is the right call: a lookalike domain running a live phishing kit; a disposable typo domain registered for one campaign; a brand-adjacent domain serving malware or a payment skimmer; abuse on newer gTLDs such as .shop, .top, .xyz, and .online.
How it runs: URS demands "clear and convincing" evidence, a higher bar than UDRP. The provider reviews within days and the registrant gets 14 days to respond; most never do. A determination typically lands two to three weeks after filing, at a noticeably lower fee than a transfer case.
Escalation: suspension does not close the door on ownership. If the name later proves worth keeping, a Reclaim filing can still transfer it. Freeze first, Reclaim after, is a common sequence.
